In June 2022, RWE assumed full operation of the Lisdrumdoagh Energy Storage Facility. With a capacity of 60 megawatts and 34 megawatt hours (MWh), this facility can feed electricity into the grid at very short notice to offset fluctuations in electricity generation. It also offers a short-term reserve to bridge electricity outages, which helps to ensure a more stable and more reliable electricity supply in Ireland.
Cathal Hennessy, Managing Director RWE Renewables Ireland, comments: “We have invested 25 million euros in developing the large-scale energy storage facility in Lisdrumdoagh. Ireland already relies heavily on renewables, and targeted funding is available for battery storage systems. The country is therefore the ideal basis for RWE Renewables to further expand its battery storage technology business and drive the energy transition.”
